gm Bankless Nation, Need a distraction from the global trade war? One of the best places you can easily get busy with via a variety of onchain experiences is Farcaster Mini Apps. Let's dig into some of my favs…
One of the biggest momentum catalysts for Farcaster this year? Its Mini Apps.
The new V2 of Farcaster's framework here is a big advance, allowing projects to easily develop and deploy everything from simple to sophisticated web apps atop the onchain social network.
Why does this system matter?
Because it makes it easy for projects to build fast and go viral on Farcaster with onchain activations that offer slick UX and notifications for persistent engagement. Crypto teams dreamed about this kind of stuff a few years ago, and now it's arrived.
As for users, the Mini Apps feature is becoming something of an open app store where you can quickly dive into a wide variety of different experiences and opportunities, including DeFi tools, NFT games, and beyond.
Better yet, Farcaster just rolled out support for minimized Mini Apps, so now you can keep scrolling your feed while still engaging with your app of choice in the foreground.
All that said, the Mini App scene is starting to boom on Farcaster. Hundreds of apps are live here already, and many more are currently in development as I write this post.
Accordingly, if you're an onchain adventurer, this is one of the hotspots you want to be exploring right now. It's got rewards, it's got utility, it's got fun. That's the trifecta in crypto.
If you want to dive into Mini Apps, you can head to warpcast.com/~/mini-apps, as Warpcast is the flagship Farcaster client and the best way to interact with these apps today.
I recommend doing your exploring on mobile for the most streamlined UX, but if you prefer the desktop experience, just keep your phone handy as signing into some Mini Apps on your computer will require you to okay the login on your mobile Warpcast app.
With that intro out of the way, let's highlight 20 Mini Apps I've enjoyed and that I think would making great starting points for anyone looking to dig deeper into this scene…
General
🎧 FC Audio Chat — Imagine Clubhouse or Twitter spaces, but on Farcaster instead. Install this app to either create your own audio chats or join in on others.
🌿 Mint — The Farcaster team always drops commemorative NFT mints to celebrate their latest protocol releases. This app offers a streamlined minting interface for when these drops are live.
📊 Onchain Alignment Chart — Are you more of a builder, a decentralist, a pragmatist, or a speculator? This app checks your onchain activity and then gives you a mintable scoring.
📺 Pods — The best onchain podcasts platform also has one of the best Farcaster Mini Apps, in my opinion. It's also a great opportunity to check out the minimization feature—listen to a Pods episode while you scroll!
🪙 Rewards — Warpcast offers a rewards system where each week the top casters on the platform receive USDC proportional to their posting activity. This app helps you track your standing and earned rewards over time.
🔄 Rounds.wtf — Rounds is a platform that lets you set up token rewards for your Farcaster communities, and this Mini App helps you dive into the project right in your feed.
📩 Warpcast Labels — The flagship Farcaster client uses spam labels to mitigate high-noise accounts, so to speak. This app lets you check how trustworthy you are according to the Warpcast spam algorithm, plus it offers a useful FAQ on how to improve your score if need be.
Token tools
🤖 Clanker — Clanker is the Farcaster ecosystem's top natural language token launcher. Type a cast, get a token! Yet if you prefer an actual token launcher interface, this app gives you a more traditional UI for not just launching tokens but also for finding other trending launches.
🦋 Earn on Morpho — More DeFi minded? This app lets you deposit ETH or USDC into a curated selection of some of Morpho's top onchain vaults. It's arguably one of the easiest ways to get started in DeFi today.
🪩 Mint.Club — A bonding curve token launcher platform that lets you use any existing ERC-20 or NFT as the base asset against a new token of your creation. It offers you some more advanced capabilities if you're looking for more than basic options.
Creators
🔋 Amps — This app lets you purchase likes in USDC in order to amplify your casts. Let's say you have a new NFT drop you're working on, you could release it and then use Amps to juice the boost and get more attention on your drop.
✍️ Paragraph — One of the most popular decentralized publishing platforms, particularly on Base. Download this app to browse and explore recent posts on Paragraph right from within Warpcast.
🎨 TITLES — An AI art training platform, i.e. artists can train onchain models on their NFTs and then let anyone remix with their styles via minting NFTs from these models. Here you can even try one of my styles, just search for SPRY01 in the menu.
Games
⬆️ Arrows — A charming blend between Jack Butcher's Checks and the Higher community's signature green arrow logo, this game calls you to blend your mints until your receive the signature green Higher arrow, thus winning an ETH prize pool.
🐲 Clankermon — Like Pokémon? This is the Farcaster-native version of it, and it's pretty fun and light-hearted. Worth checking out if you're looking for a chill long-term play.
👾 Farcade — This app offers a series of addicting mini-games, like Geo Crush, Minesweeper, and Tower Blocks. Worth exploring if you're into arcade-style gaming titles.
📍 FarGuesser — Think GeoGuessr, but Farcaster style. You're presented with an image of a certain random place, and you have to guess on the world map where that place is. Then compare your scores with others!
🌾 FarVille — This is a Farcaster ecosystem riff on FarmVille. If you're into casual lo-fi pixelated resource management plays, then this game will be right up your alley.
💰 Megapot — This is an onchain, transparent lottery game. You can put in $1 in a stablecoin and win up to $100k in kind. If you're a gambler degen type, this would be a natural starting point here.
🎰 Warpslot — This is a simple and chill casino app onchain built around spins. If you can match 3 slots in a row, you can win onchain token rewards from various communities on Base.
Zooming out, the examples above are all interesting, but they're also just a taste of what's to come. They're only just beginning to scratch the surface of what's possible here as Farcaster's Mini Apps scene has started to rev up.
It's partly personal taste and partly personal hunch, but as plenty of other apps are winding down amid the current onchain conditions, it really seems to me that Farcaster is winding up. And a large part of that is the Mini Apps boom.
I think there are many opportunities to come here. Getting started now makes a lot of sense to me as such, so see you on the purple app!
