We know that AI sometimes has trouble telling the truth, but this week, rug pulls, Air Force officials and U.S. senators reminded us that humans started the whole “separation from reality” thing.
A report on an AI-powered attack drone simulation went viral this week, when the Air Force’s Chief of AI Test and Operations said the AI pilot decided the main thing holding it back from destroying more targets was military bureaucracy, and “killed” its operator.
Except now, as explained in the largely rewritten story by Vice, nothing like that actually happened. He “misspoke,” and was engaged in a “thought experiment.” In a statement, he said, “We’ve never run that experiment.” Reassuring, until he continued, “…nor would we need to in order to realise that this is a plausible outcome.”
Except that only a fraction of a fraction of crypto transactions take place on the “darknet,” where illegal drugs are traded. And insofar as mainstream crypto markets finance the drug trade… so does traditional finance.
Finally, a feel-good moment turned to crushing disappointment when Crypto Twitter rallied around an NFT artist battling cancer. “Iâll put my rep on the line to say this is for real amidst all the scams in our space,” declared NFT influencer Andrew Wang. Except that it was a scam, and the artist disappeared shortly after her inspiring tale went viral, garnering support from dozens of crypto and NFT influencers.
Fears about AI are warranted insofar as we’re afraid it will discover this core truth: humans are the problem.
đŞ Coin of the moment
Litecoin had a good week, up 10 percent over the last seven days and more than 50 percent year over year, according to CoinGecko. It clearly has fans, even if people don’t seem to know that it’s also the parent chain of the immensely popular Dogecoin.
A former Google employee named Charlie Lee created Litecoin, a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that’s designed to be quicker at processing transactions than Bitcoin. It uses a different consensus algorithm to process transactions, which allows more people to become miners.
