Have you heard of crypto startup Prometheum? Well, by now you might have. Up until a few weeks ago, the crypto firm started by ex-Wall Street bankers and former regulators had been mentioned sparingly in industry circles. They partnered with Anchorage Digital to launch their alternative trading system in 2021. At the time it was “pending regulatory approval.” And even now, it doesn’t have any assets available for trading. But that hasn’t stopped SEC Chair Gary Gensler from fawning over them or Congress from inviting them to a hearing on crypto regulations. Very curious.
