MicroStrategy Added to Nasdaq 100
Starting December 23, MicroStrategy (MSTR) will officially join the Nasdaq-100 index along with Palantir (PLTR) and Axon Enterprise (AXON).
After soaring more than 570% in the past year, the company’s Bitcoin allocation strategy has sparked significant debate. Still, there’s no denying the firm’s—and its founder’s—ability to keep pushing the stock higher.
MicroStrategy currently has $46 billion in BTC yet has $7.2 billion in debt. It bought its 439,000 BTC at an average price of $61,725.
Why it matters: By being included in Nasdaq 100, MSTR will now benefit from passive inflows rather than only direct investment.
Invesco’s QQQ fund, for example, uses the Nasdaq 100 as it’s foundation and has more than $330 billion in AUM.
What’s Next? MSTR likely has it’s eyes on being included in the S&P 500 index in 2025.
While the company currently meets the S&P 500’s criteria for market cap and trading volume, it doesn’t meet two other requirements: positive earnings for the most recent quarter and total positive earnings for the sum of its trailing four consecutive quarters.
