After Circle’s $9 billion SPAC deal expired last month, the stablecoin issuer has had some harsh criticism for the SEC. The firm behind USDC recently said that the Commission had been sluggish in reviewing the deal, reportedly waiting out the 15 months after Circle first filed. But to call the SEC lazy isn’t quite right, either. Instead the regulator has been focused on cracking down on alleged unregistered securities offerings and, of course, the chaos that has been the collapse of FTX.
