The NFT space has been a hotspot for token launches lately, with Doodles being the latest collection to jump in here.
Pudgy Penguins released $PENGU in December, the Azuki community welcomed $ANIME last month, and now Doodles has confirmed it has an official $DOOD token in the works.
Notably, Doodles is the 8th-largest NFT collection on Ethereum, but its creators are launching $DOOD on Solana like Pudgy Penguins did with $PENGU.
Yet Doodles is also following the multichain trend here as well, as the team said they're planning a future bridge to Base, similar to how $PENGU is on Solana and Abstract and to how $ANIME is on Ethereum and Arbitrum.
There's no word on a launch date currently, but the $DOOD release means all of the biggest NFT PFP collections with the exception of CryptoPunks will now have official community tokens.
That begs the question: who's next? We could see a spate of mid-sized or smaller PFP collections attempt revivals with token launches since views around native tokens are thawing.
However, the biggest upcoming attention catalyst here will be OpenSea's $SEA, which was also confirmed this week along with the inclusion of fungible token trading on the OS2 platform.
OpenSea pushing into the scene like this will pave the way for the next wave of NFT-centric token launches, so keep your eyes peeled on this front!
