Monday Mining Metrics: Bitcoin Vegas 2025 Recap
Monday Mining Metrics: Bitcoin 2025 Las Vegas We had a tremendous time in Las Vegas for Bitcoin 2025. Thank you to the many readers and clients who visited the booth to chat about Bitcoin Mining! Countless fruitful discussions took place and we look forward to running it back next year! In this newsletter, we’re going to highlight some of the most important moments from the event… Michael Saylor Addresses Proof of Reserves Blockware’s very own Head of Intelligence, Mitchell Askew, had the opportunity to ask Michael Saylor if Strategy intends to publish on-chain Proof of Reserves, showing the more than 500,000 BTC on their balance sheet. This became the most viral moment of the week, garnering over 1,000,000 views on Mitchell’s X post alone – not to mention the countless amounts of reposts on other accounts. Saylor adamantly declared no – Strategy will not show Proof of Reserves. His reason being that he views the public disclosure of addresses as a security risk and also that the Proof of Reserves does no good without audited liabilities. The second reason makes sense to us, but the first reason is debatable. It’s not clear that there’s any security risk for a public (or even private) company to disclose their on-chain addresses; especially when there’s many stakeholders in the entity. Saylor’s inclination against Proof of Reserves creates an opportunity for other Bitcoin Treasury Companies to distinguish themselves. BitWise, Metaplanet, River, and others have already published their on-chain Proof of Reserves; which shows that a variety of different institutions are capable and can benefit from doing so. That being said, most of Strategy’s Bitcoin stack has been accounted for already by chain analysis firms. And for those seriously concerned with the legitimacy of their holdings, they should consider selling or shorting $MSTR. https://x.com/MitchellHODL/status/1927175496074182798 Tether <> Bitcoin Mining Tether CEO, Paolo Ardoino, announced the company’s plan to become the world’s largest Bitcoin miner by the end of the year. He disclosed Tether has already invested over $2 billion into energy production and mining operations, aiming to surpass all public mining companies in scale. He also disclosed Tether’s holdings over over 100,000 BTC and 50 tons of gold. They are quickly becoming the “Blackrock” / “State Street” of the Bitcoin world. Their underlying business of issuing stablecoins and harvesting US T-Bill yield with the dollar backing is generating billions of dollars of profits annually. They are reinvesting those profits into every sector of the Bitcoin world – from mining, to treasury companies, to custodians. Ross Ulbricht Delivers First Speech Since Pardon Addressing a packed audience, Ross Ulbricht expressed his gratitude to the Bitcoin community for their unwavering support during his incarceration. Ross’s speech focused on three principles he deems fundamental to the Bitcoin ethos: freedom, decentralization, and unity. This was a full-circle moment as Ross and the Silk Road were instrumental in ushering the earliest phases of Bitcoin adoption. HIs pardoning is a testament to the growing influence of the Bitcoin community. This influence was further evident at the conference by the number of important political and financial figures who made an appearance, not the least of which is the sitting Vice President of the United States, JD Vance. Central to this evolution is the launch of a new Growth Division “As the Bitcoin network reaches all-time highs in strength and security, and capital markets regain confidence in digital assets, we see a clear window to scale,” said Mason Jappa, CEO of Blockware. “This team expansion and the launch of our Growth Division set the stage for our upcoming fundraising round and position us to lead the next era of Bitcoin infrastructure.” Read the full press release here: Welcoming Nicholas Dorion: Director of high-performance computing (HPC) & Communications at Blockware Blockware is thrilled to announce the appointment of Nicholas Dorion as our new Director of High-Performance Computing and Communications.
