Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick says that President Donald Trump is set to (finally) announce the creation of a National Bitcoin Reserve on Friday—the same day the administration will host a first-ever crypto summit at the White House.
But first: Today will be a test to see whether Lutnick has a good read on what Trump’s about to do next.
Traditional and crypto investors have been waiting to see whether President Donald Trump will soften his stance on tariffs for goods arriving from Canada, Mexico, and China. But his tough talk and 20% tariff has already soured relations with China.
“If war is what the U.S. wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war or any other type of war,” Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lin Jian tweeted, “we’re ready to fight till the end.”
Bitcoin is set to hold a unique status within the crypto reserve, said Lutnick, while altcoins will be treated “positively, but differently.”
